Writs of Habeas Corpus
Appeals
Can we tackle an "old" conviction? Only with a new change in the law or newly discovered evidence of innocence. I take on Habeas cases very selectively. Habeas can also be used to challenge unfair parole conditions, or other unlawful actions taken by the parole department.
I handle direct appeals (a process which begins very shortly after sentencing, mostly on appointment for the court of appeal. The purpose of direct appeal is to reverse any conviction that resulted from an unfair trial (evidence admitted or excluded erroneously, other error by the trial court, prosecutorial misconduct, ineffective assistance of counsel, or insufficiency of the evidence) Please note there are strict TIME LIMITS for direct appeals.
I use this experience to enhance all the rest of my work as a post-conviction litigator.
